Rainy Weekend for the Tiger’s Home Opener

We can only hope that “it never rains in Tiger Stadium” holds true.

If it does rain and you are out tailgating, don’t be like this guy:

For those of you brave enough to make it out to campus, LSU issued some changes to the post game traffic procedures.

“Adjustments to post-game traffic procedures south of Tiger Stadium will improve the flow of vehicles off the LSU campus after football games this fall, LSU announced Tuesday.

LOTS ON RIVER ROAD
To expedite traffic flow out of the Levee Lots onto River Road, both lanes of traffic will flow south between the southernmost exit of the Levee Lots and Brightside Drive beginning with this week’s game against Vanderbilt. Southbound motorists should be aware that the left lane on River Road will be forced to turn east onto Brightside and the right lane will be forced to proceed south on River Road. Motorists planning to turn onto Brightside must get into the left lane of River Road between the southernmost exit of the Levee Lots and Brightside.

Once again this year, motorists exiting the Levee Lots should be aware that the northernmost exit from that lot will be directed to go north on River Road and the southernmost exit from that lot will be directed to go south on River Road.

LOTS ON GOURRIER AVENUE
Traffic procedures for the parking lots on Gourrier Avenue will be similar to post-game traffic for an LSU baseball game. Motorists exiting the Hayfield Lot on Gourrier Avenue will be contra-flowed west to River Road, but then both lanes of Gourrier Avenue traffic must turn south onto River Road. Vehicles in the Hayfield Lot that wish to go north onto River Road will need to travel through the Levee Lots and use the northernmost exit of the Levee Lots.

Vehicles exiting the new Alex Box Stadium lots will be contra-flowed east to Nicholson Drive. The right lane of Gourrier Avenue will be allowed to go straight onto Burbank or turn south onto Nicholson. The left lane will be allowed to go straight onto Burbank or turn north onto Nicholson.

NICHOLSON DRIVE
Traffic going south on Nicholson Drive will not be contra-flowed as it was last year because Burbank Drive is now available for full use. Burbank Drive was under construction last season.

All other traffic procedures that were in place for the 2008 football season will remain in place for the 2009 season.”

8th Annual Taste of Tiger Tailgating: August 29th 5-8 pm

If you missed this event last year, you will want to make sure you make it Saturday August 29th from 5-8 pm. TheTigerBlog.com will be there to cover the kickoff to LSU tailgating.

The eighth annual Taste of Tiger Tailgating will take place Saturday August 29^th from 5:00-8:00pm at the Baton Rouge River Center. Taste of Tiger Tailgating is well-known as the biggest tailgating party of the year. This event brings food, drinks, music, and all types of LSU merchandise together for tiger fans of all ages to enjoy.

Taste of Tiger Tailgating will bring in over 3,000 LSU fans to the Baton Rouge River Center. The Louisiana Strength Foundation will join Eagle 98.1, WDGL, at its 8^th Annual Taste of Tiger Tailgating. The Louisiana Strength Foundation will hold its Capital City Classic that evening.

Taste of Tiger Tailgating first started in 2001 at the LSU Pete Maravich Assembly Center with only 25 sponsorship booths the first year. However, it wasn’t long before the event outgrew the PMAC and was forced to move to a larger facility at the Baton Rouge River Center. By 2008, there were over 3,000 people in attendance. Also in 2008, Taste of Tiger Tailgating received Radio Promotion of the Year from the Louisiana Association of Broadcasters. The event, currently, averages about 125 sponsorship booths every year, with vendors ranging from car dealerships to non-profit organizations and military branches.

The Guaranty Broadcasting Group includes Guaranty Entertainment LLC which produces this event in addition. In addition, Guaranty’s radio stations are Eagle 98.1 FM – WDGL; 104 the X – KNXX/WNXX 104.9 FM and 104.5 FM; Country Legends 107.3 FM - WTGE & New Country 100.7 the Tiger FM - WYPY.

Opening Weekend at the New Alex Box Stadium

The LSU Tiger baseball team introduced the new Alex Box stadium by sweeping the Villanova Wildcats. Record attendance was on hand the entire weekend to watch the highly anticipated Tiger baseball team open the baseball season.

I had a client take me out to eat at Barattini’s Bistreaux in Gonzales. It is located on 2507 S. Purpera Rd., in between Airline and Highway 30. This Italian restaurant’s motto is “Mangia e Statti Zitto!” (Shut up and eat!). That is exactly what happened. We placed our order at the counter, then sat and waited for our food to be prepared. I ordered the Eggplant Barattini which is “served over angel hair pasta with crawfish in a creole cream sauce”. My client ordered the Barattini’s House Salad that consisted of a “fresh blend of Romaine and Iceberg lettuce with artichoke hearts, red onion, ripe olives, and pepperoni tossed in [their] signature dressing. He also made it Supreme, which added salami, ham, additional pepperoni and lots of cheese.

The food took less than 10 minutes to come out and tasted really great. It was our first time there and we will definitely be back. I saw a few tables that ordered pizza that looked pretty good.

Cheer the Tigers, Celebrate NYE w/ LSU Alumni Atlanta

The LSU Alumni Association Atlanta Chapter has been busy since LSU was announced for the Chick-fil-A Bowl. They have organized a Tuesday night party featuring the Evil Twins at Engine 11, a former firehouse that is now a nice restaurant/pub about a mile from the downtown hotels. They also partnered with Sidebar, a neighborhood bar near the Georgia Dome that will be perfect for before and after the game. Both bars will donate a portion of sales for LSU scholarships.
