Posted by ben on 14 Aug 2009 | Tagged as: Uncategorized

If you missed this event last year, you will want to make sure you make it Saturday August 29th from 5-8 pm.  TheTigerBlog.com will be there to cover the kickoff to LSU tailgating.

The eighth annual Taste of Tiger Tailgating will take place Saturday August 29th from 5:00-8:00pm at the Baton Rouge River Center. Taste of Tiger Tailgating is well-known as the biggest tailgating party of the year. This event brings food, drinks, music, and all types of LSU merchandise together for tiger fans of all ages to enjoy.

Taste of Tiger Tailgating will bring in over 3,000 LSU fans to the Baton Rouge River Center. The Louisiana Strength Foundation will join Eagle 98.1, WDGL, at its 8th Annual Taste of Tiger Tailgating. The Louisiana Strength Foundation will hold its Capital City Classic that evening.

Taste of Tiger Tailgating first started in 2001 at the LSU Pete Maravich Assembly Center with only 25 sponsorship booths the first year. However, it wasn’t long before the event outgrew the PMAC and was forced to move to a larger facility at the Baton Rouge River Center. By 2008, there were over 3,000 people in attendance. Also in 2008, Taste of Tiger Tailgating received Radio Promotion of the Year from the Louisiana Association of Broadcasters. The event, currently, averages about 125 sponsorship booths every year, with vendors ranging from car dealerships to non-profit organizations and military branches.

The Guaranty Broadcasting Group includes Guaranty Entertainment LLC which produces this event in addition. In addition, Guaranty’s radio stations are Eagle 98.1 FM – WDGL; 104 the X – KNXX/WNXX 104.9 FM and 104.5 FM; Country Legends 107.3 FM - WTGE & New Country 100.7 the Tiger FM - WYPY.

LSU Students Waiting Patiently

LSU Students Waiting Patiently

Not even a 10 AM game can stop the faithful LSU Students from lining up early in hopes of getting the best seat to cheer for the Tigers. I arrived on campus just before six in the morning and made my way straight to Gates 6 & 7. On my way, I saw an LSU Snow White heading toward the stadium, stopping to take a picture with tailgaters that had been out all night.

I talked to a few of the students at the front of the line and they had been there since five. Some were preparing for the game by painting their bodies with purple paint. Normally, for a seven o’clock game, the students begin lining up around noon. This wait wasn’t too bad, especially since the sun didn’t rise until seven or so. As soon as the Tigers came marching down victory hill, the students rushed in to find the best spot in Tiger Stadium.

Read on for pictures.
