The LSU Alumni Association Atlanta Chapter has been busy since LSU was announced for the Chick-fil-A Bowl. They have organized a Tuesday night party featuring the Evil Twins at Engine 11, a former firehouse that is now a nice restaurant/pub about a mile from the downtown hotels. They also partnered with Sidebar, a neighborhood bar near the Georgia Dome that will be perfect for before and after the game. Both bars will donate a portion of sales for LSU scholarships. Check out the “LSU Atlanta Chick-fil-A Bowl Fan Guide” at www.lsuatlanta.com for helpful tips and links for information about events and attractions.

LSU’s Golden Band from Tigerland is in need of a new band hall. Their current facility dates back to the 1950s and the growth of the band over the years has created a need for more storage, larger changing areas, and an indoor practice room. The expected cost to provide a building that meets all of these needs is 15 million dollars. Louisiana state legislature was passed last year to fund 5 million dollars through a donation match program. LSU had until August 30th to raise 5 million dollars on their own to receive the match and did so successfully.
The LSU Alumni Atlanta Chapter hosted a kickoff weekend at a local Buffalo Wild Wings to help raise funds for the new band hall. Live auctions were held featuring two footballs signed by Coach Les Miles and the LSU coaching staff and baseballs signed by Coach Paul Manieri. The Atlanta Chapter also had raffles and two football pools for the LSU-Miss St. game. One winner will receive two tickets to the 2008 SEC Championship game and another winner will win a trip to London. Band Together Atlanta has raised nearly $6700 to donate to the Band Hall fund.

It is impossible to take LSU pride away from a Tiger fan, no matter where they move. This holds especially true for Brad Feller, who graduated from LSU in 1975. Brad lives in Arkansas and has been the president of the LSU Alumni Little Rock Chapter since 1999. Every year, LSU takes on Arkansas right after Thanksgiving in “The Battle for the Golden Boot.” Sync Weekly recently wrote an article about Brad and others like him, who are deemed “Behind Enemy Lines.”
Brad wrote in to TheTigerBlog.com and wanted to note that they have changed the location where they view the games. The alumni chapter meets at Boudreaux’s Grill and Bar at 9811 Maumelle Blvd. in North Little Rock. The owner, Wayne, is a Lafayette native and a graduate from LSU. Boudreaux’s is non-smoking and features 5 big screen HDTVs. A national championship LSU banner is hung by the bar and other LSU collectibles are on display. Their menu also looks delicious. Stop by if you are in the area while an LSU game is being televised.
