Thanks to all the fans for voting for the LSU band for ESPN’s Battle of the Bands. The victory was announced live this morning on ESPN GameDay. The Golden Band will receive a $25,000 donation from Paramount and LucasFilm Ltd. for their rendition of the Indiana Jones theme song. This donation will likely go toward funding the new band hall. Tailgate of the Week: Krewe of Miss-Lou

ben 02 Oct 2008 | : Tailgating

I first visited the Krewe of Miss-Lou for the North Texas game. It was a pretty decent crowd that weekend, but they said I had to come back for the dance competition.

I kept the promise that I would return to check it out and am glad I did, the contest was amazing. Three dancers stole the show with some pretty impressive break dancing and popnlocking. Scrappy ended up flaring, windmilling, and head spinning his way to first place. Much props to the other guys poppin and lockin and to Snapper from the 504 who also made it to the final round. Following the final round was a battle between the dancers in the final round.

**Please note that the fight at the dance contest did not involve any of the members of the Krewe of Miss-Lou, nor do they tolerate that behavior.  Take your violence elsewhere.  We are all out to have a good time and root the Tigers to a win.

If you think you have what it takes to win, check out the Krewe of Miss-Lou here. The contest usually starts at 4 or 5 PM, depending on the time of the game. Get there early to sign up.

You couldn’t have asked for better weather for tailgating for the LSU - Mississippi State game. Luckily, LSU held off the trend of upsets over the past weekend. With a week off, the Tigers should be well rested to face Florida in The Swamp.

Right across from the Under the Oak Trees tailgate is where the TigerTailgating.com group sets up their gathering.  They have been in the same spot of over 15 years and actually tailgated in the median on Nicholson Drive before it was removed.  Two TVs are set up for multiple games to be viewed at the same time.  They were able to watch LSU beat MSU and Alabama upset Georgia at the same time.  Each week brings a different menu for tailgaters to sample.  This week featured hamburgers, hot dogs, pulled pork, stuffed potatoes, and a seven layer salad.  Every year they have a “camp out night” where they set up the tailgate on Friday before the game and camp out until gameday.

You can check out their full menu for the season at their website:

Under the Oak Tree Tailgaters

ben 01 Oct 2008 | : Tailgating

This group has been tailgating at the corner of South Stadium Drive and Nicholson since 1986.  Over the years, neighboring tailgate parties have combined to create a great tailgating atmosphere.  Each game, they setup boards of pictures outside of their trailer showing the history of their tailgate.  A seafood theme was used for the menu for the LSU - Mississippi St. matchup.  Fried catfish, fried shrimp, and shrimp etouffee stuffed pistolets were served accompanied by cajun french fries and hush puppies.  The tailgating trailer was handcrafted by prisoners at the Angola State Prison.  After each game, the tailgate organizer would say “I guess it was another successful tailgate party” and the quote was added to the back of the trailer.
