LSU Students Waiting Patiently
Not even a 10 AM game can stop the faithful LSU Students from lining up early in hopes of getting the best seat to cheer for the Tigers. I arrived on campus just before six in the morning and made my way straight to Gates 6 & 7. On my way, I saw an LSU Snow White heading toward the stadium, stopping to take a picture with tailgaters that had been out all night.
I talked to a few of the students at the front of the line and they had been there since five. Some were preparing for the game by painting their bodies with purple paint. Normally, for a seven o’clock game, the students begin lining up around noon. This wait wasn’t too bad, especially since the sun didn’t rise until seven or so. As soon as the Tigers came marching down victory hill, the students rushed in to find the best spot in Tiger Stadium.

Despite the heat and concern about the storms approaching the gulf, the LSU Tigers win their season opener against Appalachian State, 41-13. Although the amount of fans tailgating were less than normal, the party still rolled on. Stay tuned for pictures, video, and the announcement of TheTigerBlog.com’s tailgate of the week.

Tropical Smoothie Cafe invites you to “Eat Better. Feel Better.” Although most people tailgating rather cool off with beer other beverages, this cafe provides a wide array of smoothie flavors. If you are not the cooking type of person, bringing a party tray of their sandwiches and wraps makes for an easy contribution to a tailgate.

Kickin Kajun was at the Taste of Tiger Tailgating to promote their line of products. One of their seasonings that caught my eye was Kickin Kajun Salt Free Seasoning. In Louisiana, approximately seven percent of the adult population have been diagnosed with diabetes. Individuals with diabetes, heart problems, kidney disorders, and high blood pressure usually have to follow a low sodium diet. Unfortunately, our cuisine does not always coincide with that diet. This seasoning is a perfect alternative. I picked up a can for my father, who suffers from diabetes, and decided to try it myself. The same dishes that I would use other seasonings on came out tasting similar while increasing the health benefits. Kickin Kajun is currently used in many hospitals throughout the state.
You can pick up Kickin Kajun products in Baton Rouge at Fresh Pickins or visit their website.

At the Taste of Tiger Tailgating, I had the chance to meet Randy Caminita who had a booth setup for Caminita’s Tiger Den. The booth showcased some of Randy’s impressive artwork, including his latest piece “Welcome to Death Valley.” This piece “captures the gigantic costumed mascot ‘Mike the Tiger’ in larger than life form stepping out of Tiger Stadium with his arms spread wide open peering upward at the almighty ‘EYE OF THE TIGER’ in the night sky above.” Randy also had a collection of wildlife paintings that illustrate the sportsman life that many Louisianians enjoy. The paintings vary in price depending on size and reproduction type. For pricing and more information about how Randy pursued his interest in art, visit www.caminitawildlife.com.

With less than one week before the LSU Tigers face off against the Appalachian State Mountaineers, LSU fans around the country are gearing up to watch the tigers defend their national championship. For many of the fans, this marks the beginning of another important season: Tailgating Season! Thousands of tailgaters crowd the LSU campus each home game to cheer on the tigers. For some, it is an extravagant party atmosphere lined with kegs and barbecue pits. For others, it is simple gathering with a tent, chairs, and an ice chest or two with food and drinks.
Whatever your style is, the 7th Annual Taste of Tiger Tailgating had something for you. It was presented by Mockler Beverage and Iberville motors this past Saturday at the Baton Rouge River Center’s Exhibition Hall. TheTigerBlog.com was there to sample tasty dishes, drink some cold beer, and check out LSU Tiger merchandise and apparel.
